Day 2 . I am PRESENT.

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

Have you ever needed immediate help? A flat tire on the side of the road. A busted water pipe. A doctor’s report you were not ready for. A tooth ache. There are unexpected and unwelcomed events that happen in our daily lives that remind us that we need a present help. It would be ridiculous to think that AAA, the local plumber, or an entire medical staff would stay by your side 24/7 ready to serve your need in an instant. That instant help would be amazing, but not realistic.

When trouble does come your way, allow Psalm 46:1 to be your lifeline. Place this verse in your Contact Favorites. At the mention of His name, a peace enters the room, calmness comes to your spirit, your heart rate returns to normal, you breathe. His name is available 24/7. His name is Real! His presence becomes present even in the midst of ordinary and extraordinary trials or troubles. He is your shelter and is always ready to help in your time of need.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I call upon your name today to be my refuge and my strength. Whether my trouble be small or massive, your help is not limited. I desire your presence in my life today.

Day 1 . I am...Who I Am

Psalm 9:10 “And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”

The next 21 days we will focus on the name of God and His son Jesus. Knowing the names of God will help us trust him with our daily affairs and our eternal destinies. He chooses names for the sake of revealing things about himself that will deepen our love for him and enlarge our admiration and strengthen our faith.*

Each day ask God to reveal who He is to you. He wants to introduce His character, His love, His will to you.

Today’s name is found in Exodus 3:13-15.

You will find that the Great I AM exists in every aspect of your life. He wants to be LORD of your life (mind, body, and soul). These Old Testament verses proclaim God’s ultimate and proper name, LORD (Hebrew, YHWH or Yahweh). The most reverent of them all; a name that carries his unique character and mission.* A name that is mentioned over 6800 times in the Old Testament.

Exodus 3:15 “This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations."

Determine to move from "Will I trust my LORD today?” to "I will trust my LORD today.”

Prayer: Dear LORD, thank you for being the Great I AM. There is none beside you. I ask you to reveal yourself to me today in a very specific way. I put my trust in you. Amen.

*“I Am Who I Am” by John Piper

Day 3 . I am First.

Isaiah 44:6
This is what the Lord says - Israel’s King and Redeemer the Lord of Heaven’s Armies: “I am the First and the Last; there is no other God.”

Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.

First:  preceding all others in time, order, or importance.

It is as simple as this, God wants to be your First.  It’s not a Force First; it’s a Choice First.

God created you with the ability to choose.  You have first choices in what you eat, what you wear, where you go, who you hang with, and who you will serve (God or Man). You have the power to choose where God lands in your day, your thoughts, your relationships, your work, your life.

What is the first thing you do in the morning? Who is the first person you talk to you when you wake up? What is the first thing you do when you are troubled or worried? Who is the first person you call when you need help?  Who is the first person you call when something good happens?

It is so easy to put your desires, your work, your hobbies, your friends before God (and that’s exactly what the enemy wants to happen). Examine your heart today and see where God fits in your schedule and in every aspect of your life.  When He is your First, you have an abundance of love, joy, peace, grace and mercy that follow you everywhere you go.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, Forgive me for not putting you first in my life.  I choose to seek your kingdom and your ways first.  I know you have a plan and a future for me.  You are the most important one and voice in my life.  Amen.

Day 4 . I am LOVE.

John 4:7-21 (Read entire passage)

1 John 4:17  "God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us.” MSG

One of our powerful worship songs we sing @Newhopepeople is called “No Longer Slaves” by Bethel Music. Play this song sometime today and look up the lyrics. Two lines of this song proclaim Love.

“Love has called my name” - You are chosen by God.

“My fears were drowned in perfect love.” - You are rescued by God.

When you receive God’s perfect love, you are no longer a slave to fear. Fear is crippling and there is no room in love for fear. Fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of judgement, fear of being enough, fear of loving. Say this out loud, “I am a child of God. I’m no longer a slave to fear.” Perfect love casts out all fear.(v18)

Because His love does something for you, you must do something with His love.

God places an important command at the end of this passage: If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The command we have from God is blunt: Loving God is loving people. You’ve got to love both. (V20,21)

What fear do you need God’s love to drown out?

What person(s) do you need to start loving?

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for loving me. Thank you for rescuing me from my fears. I pray that you will help me love those who are hard to love in my life.  I want to follow your example. Your love will be a witness to my change of heart. Amen.

Day 5 . I am Light.

John 8:12

Jesus once again addressed them: “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.” MSG

Matthew 5:14-16

"Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, brining out the God-colors in the world. God's not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand-shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” MSG

We have all stumbled around in a dark room before, shuffling our feet, hands out in front of us in case we ran into something unexpected. A natural instinct. Darkness may invite an extreme fear to some or maybe a slight fear in others; no matter the scale, fear can exist.  If you are a Christ follower, you instantly become light-bearers. We are to be that light that pierces the darkness because of who lives inside of us. The words you speak, the way you act, the way you live and love should shine bright so those who are stumbling around at work, at home, at the marketplace can find their way to Christ.  Anyone who is not a follower of the Light is a follower of the darkness.  All people need Light.

Make it a point today to be a light wherever you are. God’s word says to be generous with your light.  It’s free to shine for Him. You don’t have to worry about receiving an outrageous electric bill for using His light in your life. High usage recommended.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being the Light in my life. You guide me through my dark days with your presence. Help me to shine bright for you. My face and spirit need to reflect your life. I pray that I can help someone come out of darkness into your marvelous light today. Amen.

Day 6 . I am Counselor.

Isaiah 9:6

"For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Hebrews 4:15

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor, not the angry, judgmental, or harsh counselor. The Hebrew word for wonderful is “pela” which means miracle. He is a miracle-working Counselor who has walked through every emotion and temptation as you have and can guide you through every situation in your life.

He is not only a great listener, but the almighty advisor.  His counsel comes to you if you immerse yourself in the Scripture and in a community of believers.  His guidance comes through His Word and His people. These sources are key to hearing His voice of wisdom. Truth and guidance can be found by reading God’s word daily, through a song or sermon while at church, sitting with a friend at a life group, or simply by being still and praying.

Are you keeping regular appointments with the Wonderful Counselor? Stop cancelling your sessions with the miracle-worker.  He has the answers because He is the answer.  Are you facing something right now that requires great wisdom? He’s waiting for you to ask for His help today.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being my wonderful counselor. I seek and ask for your wisdom in the situation I am facing. I commit to reading your word, to being faithful to your house and to connecting with strong believers so I can live the purpose-filled life you have designed for me. Amen.

Day 7 . I am Adonai-Lord, Master

My two grandsons were playing and one kept saying, do this, do that. In frustration the other one said, “you’re not my boss!”
Who is the boss of you? If we are wise, that boss is God. For some, that boss could be another person, a habit, stronghold or insecurity. For many years, I have struggled with trying to find the woman of God I’m supposed to be, I am learning that I am her, I just need walk her out.

Gen. 15: 1-2 “the Word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Don’t be afraid, I am your shield, your very great reward. "Abram said, "Lord, what can you give me, since I am childless?

God was Adonai to him in so many circumstances. Yet, Abram is not satisfied. Could it be that Sarai’s constant reminder of being childless has something to do with Abram’s forgetfulness about God’s authority and power? Ladies, be aware of how much influence you have over the thoughts of your husband. Sarai did not allow God to be Adonai over the issue of her childlessness and she influenced Abram in a negative way that impacted their lineage for generations.

The need for a son was great, despite the Lord telling him that He, God, was his very great reward. Without words, Abram said, God, “there is something I want; Something that is more important to me than you.” Abram was saying, ‘Adonai’ with his lips, his actions said something different.

Often, we say Adonai; yet our actions say different. Who or what is your boss?

Lord, You are completely trustworthy; show me the areas in my life I have not given to You. I repent for allowing _____ to be Lord in my life. Amen

Day 8 . I am . El Shaddai - God Almighty

Read Genesis 17:19

The covenant that is being spoken here relies almost completely upon God. No less than eight times, the Lord tells Abram something that He will do for him. The only thing God asks of Abram is to keep the covenant; walk before God and be blameless. If Abram walks in obedience, there is great blessing ahead for not only himself, but all his descendants.

Notice God does not inquire if Abram is able to do what is being asked. Rather, God begins by proclaiming He will be Abram’s sufficiency if Abram will walk before God. God would be sufficient for Abram’s every need. He would be Abram’s El Shaddai.

God never calls us to walk before Him and then disappears, leaving us to map out the best path to take by ourselves. Through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, El Shaddai provides everything we need to walk the path, which God is taking us.

Perhaps there is a place in your life where God is saying, “I am your El Shaddai; walk before me and be blameless. I am enough for everything that I will ask of you. Trust Me, walk before Me and see the blessing that I will bring to you.” He promises to be sufficient for anything that He allows in your life. Do you trust Him? Will you, in faith, walk before Him, believing that He is enough?

Lord, You are, God Almighty, I will walk before you believing You are enough for the journey You have placed before me. Thank you for being more than enough. Amen

Day 9 . I am - Jehovah Rohi-My Shepherd

Psalm 23:1-6

Vs. 5
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies: you have anointed and refreshed my head with oil; my cup overflows.”

King David shares with us how God gives us what we need right when we need it. When darkness closes in and when giants stand and taunt, The Good Shepherd prepares a table for two in the presence of your enemies, for Him and you. The problem that David and we have is we allow the enemy to come and double book our reservation to bring strife, chaos and confusion to the table.

James 4:7-8 When you draw near to the Lord (The “Good Shepherd”); the Good Shepherd draws near to you.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Remember the Table is for two. As we pray in this 21 day fast, the Good Shepherd is seated at the table waiting for you to take your seat.

Pray: God we thank you that your plans are to prosper us and not to harm us. Holy Spirit help us come to the table alone, so we can give our full attention to the Good Shepherd. Open our ears to hear the voice of the Lord and not a stranger. Amen

Day 10 . I am - Jehovah-Nissi The Lord my Banner

Exodus 17:9-16

Banners have been important throughout history as visible declarations of authority. They show whom you represent and to whom you are committed.

This battle itself is orchestrated by God. Moses knew and wanted to make sure the Israelites knew and remembered it. God’s presence and power took them into the battle and assured the victory when the battle was done.

What battles are you fighting today?

I encourage you to use this time of fasting and praying to get understanding that you are worth more than a hidden Gem among the stones. Raise the Banner, Seek Him who sees you and let Him do the rest.

Proverbs 4:7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

Pray Lord, thank you that as my Banner you rescue, protect, defend, honor, avenge, guard and preserve me. Wow! Thank you, for this amazing picture of what You are in and over our lives even today. Thank you that none of these things are dependent on me. I fall short, yet You never come up lacking and You provide all this for me. I stand in awe. Amen

Day 11 . Jehovah Jireh—Provider.

Genesis 22.

Abraham has been asked by God to do the unspeakable—sacrifice Isaac, his only son. In total obedience, Abraham prepares to do the very thing that God has asked. He and the very unsuspecting Isaac begin the journey to where the sacrifice is to be made.

When Isaac questions the absence of a lamb for the sacrifice, Abraham, in faith, answers that God will provide the lamb.

Is Abraham in denial? Had God ‘let him in on the secret’?

Abraham and Isaac proceed up the mountain to the appointed place and Abraham places Isaac on the altar. Just as he draws back his arm to plunge the knife into the chest of Isaac, the angel of the Lord calls out STOP! Immediately, Abraham spots a ram caught in the thicket and offers the ram as a sacrifice in place of Isaac.

Genesis 22:14

Obedience led to provision -- God provided the lamb when Abraham was obedient to God regardless of the cost to himself.

Provision means that something was seen beforehand and thus provided for.

Where in your life do you stand in need of provision?

Are you willing to give up your Isaac?

Perhaps His provision will only come when you step out in obedience and do the things that He asks of you. I urge you during our 21 day fast to spend some time asking God to show you if there is a place in your life where you may need to step out in obedience in order to see God’s hand of provision.

Pray Lord thank You for your provision. As I walk up the mountain of trust help me to see Your solution coming up the other side. Amen

Day 12 . I am Still Here

Psalm 27:8 “When you said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”

When you seek God, you will find more than you ever dreamed possible. He will replace your worries with peace, and He will shower you with blessings.

He is all that you are searching and hoping for! That empty place Inside you? The one thing you’ve tried to fill with stuff and friends and so many other things? He is the only one who can fill it - seek God. All the stuff and busyness of this world may sometimes distract you and take your attention away from God but he is watching and waiting for you to return to Him. It’s never too late! And when you do search for Him again, you will find that He is still here with you right where He has always been.

Pray - God thank you for always being right by my side. Please forgive me for times when I forgot that you are still here. I know that your Holy Spirit lives in me and that I am never alone. Remind me of Your peace, Your sovereignty and Your holiness. I love you, God, and thank you for always being here for me.

Day 13 . I am Trustworthy

Isaiah 55:9 “For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts”

As you start this day, remember that God is in control. As you make plans for the day, remember that He is the one who is really in charge of it. He is always with you - whether you realize it or not. On days when everything is going smoothly, you may not notice God at all. But in those days that things don’t go as you planned - look for God! He may be doing something important in your life, something very different from what you expected. Don’t try to figure out what is happening. Simply trust God’s way - He loves you! Thank Him for the great things He is doing in your life even before you understand why it may be happening. He is worthy of you’re trust!

God, I know I can never fully understand your ways. Thank you for being in control. I am grateful that I am your child and you know what’s best for me. Please forgive me for when I try to take over with my plans. Thank you for your Holy Spirit to remind me that I don’t need to know and understand everything that happens in my life. I know You love me and I honor Your will in my life. Amen

Day 14 . I am a strong tower

Romans 8:39 Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to Him and are safe.

God wants you to be all His. He wants you to depend only on Him - not your friends, yourself, your family, or your circumstances.

Depending only on God may make you feel a bit like a tight rope walker at the circus. But don't be afraid of falling; He is your safety net. He will catch you! So don't look down - look ahead to Him. He is always in front of you, encouraging you to come closer to Him, one step at a time. There is nothing in the whole world that can separate you from His love!

God, I know that following you will lead me to places where the risks seem impossible. I know that I may fall. I know that others may not understand the reasons I follow your direction. But You are my strong tower. I will keep your light ahead of me and my eyes focused on you. I love you, God, and I delight in following your will and leaning on your strength. Amen

Day 15 . I am Peace

James 1:2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way consider it an opportunity for great joy.

God's peace is the greatest of treasures. Its the most expensive of gifts for both the Giver and for you, the receiver. God bought this peace for you with His own blood. And to receive it, you must learn to trust Him in the middle of life's storms.

In times of calm, you have the peace of this world. But that peace is fleeting - it can not handle problems. It can't heal broken hearts, lost relationships or big disappointments. But God's peace can. It can even find a way to turn troubles into blessings, making your stronger in your faith.

Expect troubles every day. They are a part of living in an imperfect world. But when they come your way, be glad, for He has overcome this world - and ALL its troubles.

God, Thank you for your peace, the peace that surpasses all understanding. Thank you for always being with me and keeping me calm and steady, no matter what I face. I rest in You, God! Forgive me of unnecessary worrying or doubt. Guide me back to your heart and settle my soul. Amen

Day 16 . I am Rest

Matthew 11:28 Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."

When you are so tired you can hardly stand, doesn't it feel wonderful when you finally get to sink into your own bed?  Your body relaxes, your breathing slows, your bones just seem to melt into the mattress - and you rest.

Just as your body gets tired, so does your spirit.  Trying to get everything done, all the time can really wear you out sometimes, especially if everyone around you is working against you.  Sometimes you just need a break!

Go to God.  Lift up your hands in prayer to Him.  Lie back and rest in His presence.  Take a deep breath of His peace.  He will refresh you and give you the strength to keep going.

Dear God, I need rest.  I am tired from all the busyness.  My mind and body need to rest in You.  Lord, let me see opportunities for more quiet time with You.  I won't make excuses. When I am still before You, You revitalize and refresh me. Lord, allow me to rest so that I may be ready to do Your work and see Your will.  Amen

Day 17 . I am Joy

John 15:11-15

In John 15:11, Jesus says: “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”

The joy we have as Christians is the joy of Jesus. He says my joy, not joy like mine. Simply said, Jesus wants to take the joy that He has and place it in us. When we think about Jesus how often do we look at Him as the Jesus of joy.

Hebrews 1:9 says, “God has anointed the Lord Jesus with the oil of gladness above his fellows.” The word gladness in the original language means to leap or to jump. When was the last time we really began to jump around in our gladness?

Final thought: Do you remember when Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, came to greet Mary, and both of them had babies in their wombs? The Bible says the baby in Elizabeth’s womb leaped for joy in the presence of the Son of God. The word used for leaped in the original language is the same word used for gladness in Hebrews 1:9. So today as we continue to fast and pray let the JOY OF JESUS produce something in our lives, but produce something in the lives of everyone we come in contact with today. Share His joy.

Father, today we receive your joy. Let us live in gladness and joy as we navigate the today, tomorrow and the next. Let that same joy rewrite someone else’s story and let it be our constant reminder of your love for us. Amen

Day 16 .

Amen

Day 18 . I am Hope

Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope!”

There’s a difference between ‘wish’ and ‘hope', but so often we interchange them.

A wish is a desire for something. Hope is knowing and trusting that your future is secure in the ONE who has already written the book. We don’t need to HOPE for good things to happen, we need to be secure that our HOPE is in the Almighty Creator. His plans and purpose for our lives are far greater than any WISH we could come up with.

Pray: God, thank you that as the creator of the universe and everything in it, YOU have chosen me!! You have plans for me and for my life!!! My future is secure in the HOPE that I have in you!!! Allow me to pause today. Breath today. Take in your mighty presence in everything that I see. I trust you, Lord, and your plans for my future. In Jesus name, Amen.

Day 19 . I am Grace

Ephesians 2:8 “For God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.”

2 Corinthians 12:9 “Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So, now I am glad to boast about my weakness, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

Hebrews 4:16 “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Grace is a gift, it is all we need, and our Father is gracious.

So simple to say, but sometimes it can be the most difficult thing for us to receive. Allowing God to take his rightful place in our lives when it comes to “grace” can be a challenge but only because we forget that it is our choice to allow Him to be “gracious” in our lives. I say so often, it’s so much easier to show grace to others than it to show it to ourselves…I might even add, than to receive it from a Father that loved us so much He would sacrifice so much for us.

So today let’s receive His grace so that we can share His grace.

Pray: Father, thank you for your grace, that is sufficient, that is a gift. Strengthen us boldly walk out the grace you have blessed us with and boldly share that same grace with the world. Thank you for sacrificing so much. In Jesus name, Amen

Day 20 . I am the WORD.

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with God and the WORD was God.”

As we are nearing the end of our 21-Day fast and we pause to revel in all that God has done and will continue to do, we can’t help but find ourselves craving The Word!! As God draws you closer to Him, you are naturally drawn with a desire to know Him more, seek Him more, and pursue His wisdom and strength in every area of our lives.
Our desire will ultimately lead us to be fully reliant on our Heavenly Father. These desires are fed in the WORD.
He is the WORD. Spend time with Him.

Pray: “God I thank you that you are the WORD. I thank you for drawing me closer to you. Help me seek your guidance, love, mercy, peace, and joy daily by spending time with you in the WORD”, Amen.
